At Essex Reclamation, we have a famous annual event, The ‘Maldon Mud Race’ which takes place only 5 miles from us.

The race involves competitors racing across the mud of the River Blackwater at low tide.

It’s arduous, extremely muddy and like wading through treacle!! Listed as one of Britain’s weirdest traditions, it is in the same category as cheese rolling down the hill.

This year was its 50th anniversary and one of our drivers, Malcom Rowe who lives in Maldon decided to participate again but this year with his Son Kieron.

Not being one to do things the easy way, Malcom decided to dress up in a gorilla suit which proved not to be the greatest of ideas but he did complete the course and his son Kieron came 4th which is a massive achievement and both raised funds for extremely worthwhile charities in the process. Well done from all colleagues at Essex Reclamation Ltd.

On May 4th, Maldon’s unique Mud Race saw over 300 fund-raising competitors plough through the River Blackwater’s famous mud and chilly water from Promenade Park to the other side of the river at Heybridge and back.
