Our recently adapted DMR conveyor sorting system allows us to process dry mixed recyclables that have been collected on behalf of the council from the roadside.

Upon delivery to our site by dustcart vehicles, the materials are loaded on to our conveyor system and sorted by our staff, materials such as bottles, plastic wrapping, newspaper, cans are segregated and then baled and sent by us for onward processing to recycling mills throughout the UK and Europe. By allowing Essex Reclamation to handle the sorting and processing of these materials to such a professional standard, the Council is best placed to meet its environmental responsibilities, reach its recycling targets, ensuring the quality of the recyclables, and minimise their waste disposal costs.

We were asked to ensure the disposal of ID cards from a very high profile car manufacturer. Naturally the safety and security of their process was paramount to their business.

The cards were collected from the site and upon return to our process unit were immediately shredded and certification produced for audit purposes. The materials produced after destruction were sent as waste to energy.

Shred4Security were asked to visit the site and give guidance as to the effective disposal of approximately 1500 boxes of paper materials that were confidential and required shredding.

The biggest obstacle for the Airport staff was to ensure removal with the least disruption and as quickly as possible, they needed Shred4Security to be as flexible as possible.

Following the audit, we arranged for large sealed skips to be placed on site and filled as and when required, when full they could be removed to our site for processing. In addition, we agreed to visit the site on a weekly basis and remove boxes that had been passed for clearance by each department. The clearance was a massive exercise for the Airport management and Shred4Security worked very closely with them to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.

Upon return to our site, the materials were shredded and the relevant certification and audit trail was presented to the Airport management for their records.

All paper materials handled at Shred4Security are shredded and compacted and then passed on for recycling to Essex Reclamation Ltd, so not only destroyed but also recycled.

Working extremely closely with the management of this company, we were able to help them segregate their varied waste streams properly, to include general waste, plastics, aluminium and cardboard. By installing dedicated equipment on their site such as compactors, open top containers, static artics and wheelie bins, we were able to ensure effective handling of materials and significantly increase their rate of recycling thus reducing their waste disposal costs, to date, their landfill costs have reduced by an incredible £2000 per month.

The equipment, effective positioning of such and elimination of double handling of materials by staff has managed to reduce their level of general waste from 38 tonne to just 6 tonne per month and they have seen an increase in their revenue from recycling as the generation of cardboard for recycling has risen to over 20 tonne per month, materials that previously had been landfilled.

Even though significant savings have been made for this company, we continue to work closely with them as their recycling needs are ongoing and the advice we can offer is very much part of the service that we provide. Effective waste management is an extremely important part of any successful company.

A high profile local food manufacturing company, with a keen interest in pursuing environmentally friendly processes in the manufacture of their product, asked us to conduct an audit of their site giving recommendations for a more effective process for their waste disposal.

We were able to implement a recycling scheme which ensured the segregation of materials that could be recycled, reducing landfill costs and helping to earn revenue for the company.

Cardboard, plastic film, plastic drums and pallets were segregated and taken out of the waste disposal stream.  30 cu yard containers, compactors, a mill size baler, wheelie bins and pallets were placed on site for their use to ease the handling of the materials.  Essex Reclamation were available on demand to remove materials for recycling when needed.

To help the company keep a record of cost reductions, Essex Reclamation Ltd are able to offer a monthly breakdown of weights/types of materials being sent for recycling allowing the manufacturer to build up a good picture of their carbon footprint and how they are saving money.
